Description of the activity

The visit begins in the majestic and historic Casa de Los Balcones. A 17th-century property, where the visitor has the opportunity to visit all the rooms of the house, home of a family of landowners of La Orotava. While our guide will tell you the memories of this illustrious lineage.

Then you will meet Alexis, owner of the mill “The Machine”, which uses top quality products to make the most traditional of the Canarian products: Gofio. With it you will know firsthand what gofio is, and you will enjoy the aroma that the roasted grain gives off.

Visitors can choose from the many varieties that Alexis produces in his mill, to take back home, after tasting at Casa Lercaro, declared a Cultural Interest Property by the Canarian Government.
In the visit to the gofio mill “El Hoyo” of the historic Casa Ponte Fonte – now Casa Lercaro – you will know why the importance of this precious and nutritious food throughout the history of the inhabitants of the Islands.
